How to play it and where it comes from

Techno (Detroit mid-1980s, then Berlin) between 125 and 140: the kick on the quarter notes is the protagonist, open hat on the offbeat, sixteenth-note hi-hat; the clap on 2 and 4 is often removed or reduced to a single hit on 4. Syncopated metallic rim/perc and eighth-note ride give the hypnotic drive. TR-909 sounds. Variation is minimal and slow (filter, decay and reverb automation). Variants: reverberated kick rumble on the offbeat, 3/16 perc that "rotates" over the 4/4, break with only hats.
