How to play it and where it comes from

Groove of the Basic Channel / Chain Reaction school (Berlin from 1993), then DeepChord and Echocord, between 115 and 128: soft, full kick on the quarter notes, often slightly saturated and with a sub tail, open hat on the offbeat with medium decay, closed hat in eighths at low volume, shaker or filtered noise between hits, an isolated rim on the 2& sent to a tempo-synced delay (3/16 or dotted eighth) with 50–70% feedback: the repeats create the real groove. The clap, if present, is only on 4 and drenched in reverb. The movement comes from the chords (minor stabs in the delay) and the filter automation, not from the drums. Variants: rim on the 3&, hat with a light swing, kick slightly late by 5 ms against the bass.
