How to play it and where it comes from

Melodic techno (Tale Of Us, Afterlife, Anyma, Stephan Bodzin) at 120–128: a straight, dark techno groove over which emotional arpeggios and pads rest. Kick on the quarter notes with a rolling sixteenth-note bass (sidechain), deep clap with reverb on 2 and 4, sixteenth-note hats, open hat on the offbeat. Rim and low toms add depth without filling. Variants: kick removed for 16–32 bars in the melodic break, clap only on 4, percussion with dotted-eighth delay.
