How to play it and where it comes from
Minimal techno (Richie Hawtin, Ricardo Villalobos, the Cologne and Berlin scene) at 124–130: very few elements, everything in the details. Short kick on the quarter notes, hat on the offbeat, clap only on 4, syncopated rim and click with light swing (15) and micro-variations of pitch and decay. The shaker with an eighth + two sixteenths figure keeps the movement going. Variants: rim in cycles of 3 or 5 sixteenths (polyrhythm), elements entering and leaving every 16 bars, kick with a long "tok" tail.
