How to play it and where it comes from

Hyperpop (PC Music, SOPHIE, 100 gecs, Charli XCX) is deliberately excessive: high tempos, often read in half time (80–100 in the references), a mix of trap, EDM and bubblegum pop. Heavily distorted kick and 808 in unison, clap and snare on 2 and 4 of the double time, sixteenth-note hats with glitch rolls. Variants: sudden switches between four on the floor and trap, kick with rising pitch, sections with everything bit-crushed, pitched vocals as a rhythmic instrument.
