How to play it and where it comes from

Shibuya-kei groove (Pizzicato Five, Flipper's Guitar, Cornelius) between 110 and 130: a “1960s lounge” breakbeat that blends soul-jazz, bossa nova and sunshine pop. Syncopated kick (1, “2 and”, “3 and”), light snare on 2 and 4 with tambourine, rim and bongo hinting at bossa, shaker in sixteenths with a slight swing (about 55%). It is often a looped drum sample. Variants: pure bossa (see r-bossa), Motown beat with snare on all the quarter notes, heavier, sampled breakbeat (Cornelius), easy-listening sections with brushes.
