How to play it and where it comes from
City pop (Japan, 1970s–80s: Tatsuro Yamashita, Mariya Takeuchi's "Plastic Love", Anri) between 100 and 130: very clean acoustic studio drums with a "16 beat" feel (sixteenth-note hats played with two hands), syncopated funk/disco kick (1, the last sixteenth of 2, the "and" of 3), snare on 2 and 4, open hat on the "and" of 4. Slap/funky bass, Rhodes, horns, maj7 chords. Variants: disco versions with kick on the quarter notes, snare ghost notes, light percussion (congas, tambourine).
