How to play it and where it comes from
"Drunk" groove in the style of J Dilla / Questlove (D'Angelo's "Voodoo"): snare on 2 and 4 very late, kick early and syncopated (1, the "and" and the following sixteenth of 3, the last of 4). The heavy swing (45, about 64–66%) is only an approximation: in reality straight and swung sixteenths are mixed across the different instruments. Rim ghost notes and hi-hat with widely varied dynamics. Variants: hi-hats played early and kick late (a "smeared" feel), rim in place of the snare in the verses.
