How to play it and where it comes from
The gallop of heavy and power metal (Iron Maiden — The Trooper, Helloween, Blind Guardian): each beat is an eighth plus two sixteenths (x.xx), played by the double kick in unison with the bass (Steve Harris does it with his fingers) and with the palm-muted guitars. Snare on 2 and 4, crash or china on the quarter notes in the choruses, ride on the bell in the verses. Reverse variant (two sixteenths + eighth: xx.x) and triplet gallop in 12/8 tracks. Typical tempos 150–190.
