How to play it and where it comes from
The doom groove (Black Sabbath, Candlemass, Electric Wizard, Sleep): 55–75 BPM, full, long snare on 2 and 4 (rimshot, lots of ambience), kick following the long notes of the riff, crashes left to ring on 1 and 3 like bells. The space between hits is part of the sound: the cymbals need a long tail and the drums a big room. Variants: slow 12/8 shuffle (Sabbath), funeral doom under 50 BPM with one hit per bar, restart in double time with ride for the finale.
