How to play it and where it comes from

Bass house drop (Jauz, AC Slater, Habstrakt; roots in speed garage and UK bassline): short, dry kick on the quarter notes, clap on 2 and 4, open hat on the offbeat, closed hat in sixteenths with gaps on the downbeat, syncopated rim/perc. The 808 lane here shows the hits of the synth bass (growl, reese, "talking" bass), which never coincide with the kick: they enter on the offbeat and on the sixteenths after 2 and 4, with a pickup at the end of the second bar. Double snare on the last beat as a springboard into the next cycle. Variants: bass that stops for half a bar ("stop") before restarting, bass hits in triplets in the last bar of the phrase, full sixteenth-note hats to raise the tension.
