How to play it and where it comes from

Modern Afrobeats (Wizkid, Burna Boy, Davido) between 95 and 115: soft kick in a 3-3-2 figure in the first half (1, the "a" of 1, the "and" of 2) plus the "and" of 3; clap or snare on 2 and 4. The identity lies in the syncopated percussion: rim/log and congas interlocking off the beat, shaker in an eighth + two sixteenths figure with light swing (15). Hi-hat only on the offbeats. Lots of open space for voice and guitar. Variants: kick on the quarter notes (amapiano influence), clap only on 3, sampled talking drum in the fills.
