How to play it and where it comes from
Nominal tempo 130–150 but felt at half (70): snare and clap layered only on 3 of the bar, which becomes the "2 and 4" of the half time. The kick is always doubled by the long, tuned 808, which carries the bass line with glide between notes. The identity is in the hi-hats: base eighths with rolls in triplets, 1/32 and 1/64 (here the final roll), often with rising pitch. Variants: open hat on the "and" of 2, ghost snare before 3, kick moving to the "and" of 4 in bar 2. Fill: a total drum stop for half a bar before the hook, with only the 808.
