How to play it and where it comes from

Hybrid groove for Latin electronic pop: kick on the quarter notes and clap on 2 and 4 as in dance-pop, but the 3-3-2 dembow is given to the rim (lighter than the reggaeton snare) so the track stays "pop." The shaker with an eighth + two sixteenths figure (a legacy of guacharaca and maracas) and a light swing (10) give the tropical movement; bongó in response (high, syncopated, low on 4) and open conga tones on 4 and the "and" of 4 as in a simplified tumbao. Open hat on the offbeat for drive. Variants: remove the four-on-the-floor kick in the verses and leave only rim + shaker, add an 808 tresillo (1, the "a" of 1, the "and" of 2), bongó roll before the chorus.
