How to play it and where it comes from
Relaxed groove between 90 and 100 BPM, a child of P-Funk: soft, syncopated kick (1, the last sixteenth of 2, 3 and the "and" of 3), snare and clap together on 2 and 4, tambourine doubling the backbeat. Light sixteenth-note hi-hats with a slight swing (15) that gives the lowrider "bounce"; open hat on the "and" of 4. The identity is in the surroundings: Moog-like synth bass, high sine-wave lead and backing vocals, but the drums stay clean and wide. Variants: double kick on the "and" of 1, snare with short reverb, hats switching to eighths in the verses.
