How to play it and where it comes from

Electro (Afrika Bambaataa's "Planet Rock" 1982, Cybotron, Drexciya, Miami bass) at 120–130: everything on the Roland TR-808. Syncopated, long kick (1, the "and" of 2, the "and" of 3), snare + clap on 2 and 4, closed hats in robotic, perfectly straight sixteenths. 808 cowbell and toms as a percussive "melody." Variants: kick doubling the sequenced bass, eighth-note hats, break with only 808 and vocoder.
